Hay Hay Hay!!!

These pictures were a few days before Christmas but I thought they were too good not to post. A big part of farm life is hay.Because of the drought last summer and us not having the whole place fenced in yet we are using way more hay than we had planned on.The Boys went and got us some square bales, here they are unloading it.They used a cart behind the lawn mower to move it to the shed.

When we moved here 2 years ago, The Boy couldn't handle one of these bales by himself.Lots of good, muscle building farm work quickly changed that! Plus, he has grown about a foot! He has now just gotten a smidgen taller than me, I am 5'-5 1/2", he is only 12 ! Of course, I can lift these bales,I have farm girl muscle!

I love to see father and son working together! Hubby has taught The Boy a lot these last two years and The boy has a thirst for knowledge. Not just book knowledge, which he loves also, but he wants to learn how to do just about everything. He learned some basic welding last week!

Hubby is a good example, there is just about nothing he can't do.If he doesn't know how, he will study and research until he can do it.Brain surgery...maybe not.He could give you first aid and field dress your wound thought. He did this once for himself after he cut a chunk out of his leg with a chain saw but that is a story for another day!

The Boy is so over dramatic! He is faking exhaustion!

In just a short while they are done! Father and son teamwork!

Hopefully this will last a month or two!

we need to make a hay run again as well! For the opposite reasons you do! We have had so much rain its making us use more for the goats. They won't go out and forage much in the rain. So we have to supplement them.

Plus more bedding hay this winter as well. All this ikky cold weather that started way to early! But I know it won't be but another month and a half if all goes normal and we should start seeing warmer temps, Jan. and first half of Feb. are always our worst months :O)...

I found the seed catalog company online :O). Ordered the catalog! Are you starting seedlings now? I saw some great pepper seeds on their site online! I love any kind of pepper, hot, sweet you name it!

Starting the aprons today, one for you one for me. I am slow but will let ya know when done...

LindaMay,

Those Boys are fun to watch!I find my a constant source of comical entertainment!

Texan,
The weather is crazy this year, one extreme to the other! I am going to get my seeds order this week.I am going to get my tomatoes started soon after they come in.I want them to be big when they go out to beat the heat if we have a summer like last year and the night temps got to hot for them to set fruit.

You are so sweet making me an apron! I am excited to see it, you are such a talented seamstress!

Working together WITH dad is so much better than dad just telling son what to do. Building memories AND getting necessary chores done!

I had to start working out at the gym to be able to lift those heavy bales!

I kind of like the smell of hay on a cold morning though.

Great photos.

We need to go get our extra. We brought in 100 bales but I didn't think it would last me 'til spring so we ordered 25 more and they are holding it for me. I hope THAT's enough the way these goats are eating!

Mike assures me we have enough hay to get to next May but I'm a worrier. In December we've already had a lot of winter weather. Your boys are darling.

Carolyn,
I admit they were a struggle for me at first!

Pricilla,
Who would have thought such little goats could eat so much!!!

Joanna,
