So Busy!

Yes, it has begun!

Spring and so much work! Look, green!

The red buds are blooming all over the place!

Today I spent several hours tilling and planting. A little less than half of the garden space I currently have.If I can get the sheep moved over to a new pasture soon I will be able to increase my garden space .Right now they are right next to my garden in a temporary field.  If I don't get them moved soon I can always fall garden in that spot!

I got corn, Roma beans, soup beans and purple hull peas planted and some yellow squash set out. I also planted seeds to go in the hot house for my winter squash and watermelons,I don't have their space ready yet,but I wanted to get them started so they have a good chance this summer.

Here are some pictures of what is going on in the hot house. Yes,I made a hillbilly repair with orange duct tape. The door is the only place I have had to repair. It has held up well!

The very biggest tomatoes I bought from the feed store. Some of mine are not far behind though!

I will plant a few weeks earlier next year I think! I learned a lot from starting all these seeds.

The hot house is not a green house and  it will freeze inside! The central heat will dry out seedlings before you know it! Needless to say I had some replants! As I always tell The  Boy, it is never a mistake if you learn something from it! I even planted some carrots in the pot I use to hold open the door! I will plant stuff any where I can find  or fill up with some dirt!

Here is one of my raised beds. I hope to make some more over the next few weeks.

It has strawberries, onions around the sides and mini bok choy in the center. On the end is a cattle panel with malabar spinach soon to grow up it.

Boy,I have so many garden plans! I sure hope I can keep up the energy to get it all done!

You've really been working hard! I love your hot house and the many plants you've started. Your raised beds are so pretty...is that a decorative brick border? Very nice!

Mrs.T,
Thanks! Yes they are flower bed bricks so they are not super deep.I hope to do a few with cinder blocks soon!

I need a lesson on raised beds. I till up the soil here (gumbo that is) and always dump a truck load of good aged manure on it to till into it. Anything you till into the soil here sinks..rocks will sink..eventually. When I see someone post about raised beds it makes me curious the difference.
You HAVE been busy girl..you have a huge head start on plants. Really nice work!

I really like the hot house too. What are the dimensions of it? And, how did you attach the door? I'd like to make one like this to start my seeds in.

The redbud's are beautiful. They should be blooming soon here too.

Brenda,

The door is made of PVC and hung on a long metal rod stuck in the ground!

i put in raised beds last year in early spring and then realized that when everything leafed out it was too shady and most of my stuff did not grow well at all. i don't know what i am going to do this year. your stuff looks great. we are expecting snow again tonight!

WOW! Everything is beautiful! Love the greenhouse and all the little plants. The fox is welcome to stay as long as he stays out of our yard. We don't trap. If the fox won't leave. Then the chickens stay locked up. But the fox will move on to where he can find food.

I saw some red buds in bloom in the woods yesterday when I went to cut Justice some Kudzu vine... I keep saying I am going to transplant some up closer to the house where I can see them :O)

I am so jealous of being able to be out and planting. It's not past our frost free date until May here. My south porch is doing a good job of letting me start my garden. I love your hot house.
