Getting the Tree

I have heard that many of the Christmas tree farms here in Texas were hit hard by the drought. Thankfully, the one we always visit had plenty of trees!
Mill Hollow farm is nestled in the pines, a beautiful little place .We went on a cloudy, crisp day. It was lovely!
We don't usually get Fall color until December. I was afraid with the crazy year weather wise we would not get any color but the last couple of weeks have been pretty nice.

This is and old home place on the edge of the woods. I love looking at places like that ,wondering..who lived there, what their lives were like...
Hubby is scouting for the perfect tree! Of course I am the final inspector!
Hubby and The Boy discuss the best way to fell this mighty cypress!
Hubby is strictly a supervisor for the cutting part!
Inspecting The Boy's work..
A job well done boys,a job well done!

I can almost smell the aroma from here! What a wonderful memory and tradition you have passed on. Your boy will be doing just this same thing with his family some day. We watched National Lampoon Christmas vacation last night. Although its an old show...I laughed at the family going into the woods for the tree. I remember the complaining of cold feet on a trip or two of ours when the kids were little. AND it took a serious long time picking out that PERFECT tree. Usually just a tad to big. Have a Wonderful Holiday season..to you and your family!

Yup, there's something wrong with cutting a Christmas tree down in short sleeves LOL! Looked like a beautiful day to do it!

Gees, that scene is....uh....so....warm looking! We don't cut our own tree because it is FREEZING here and you can die out there trying to find your tree and cutting it!! I can't imagine cutting the tree in shirt sleeves without a parka, hat, gloves, boots, etc!

Looks like a fun day though. Lovely tree farm! I'm coming down there for my tree next year!

Seeing those trees standing all in rows is sooooo beautiful. I love their shape so!!!

I've noticed lots of firewood sales in our area, seems like more than usual. Someone pointed out that it was probably because of the fire bans. I knew the drought had to be responsible some how.
