No Green but a Little Gray

I have seen so many of you out there posting wonderful garden photos. Believe me,I wish I was posting them right along with you! You see, I have the heart of a gardener. I love to grow things, any things! Food for my family, flowers even cactus! I have nothing to post about gardening or anything green. First of all the drought has ended any hope of flowers this year.Oh,I keep the struggling plants alive by watering them but there are no masses of flowers. This time of year, even on a good year, there is not much that can take the heat here in South Texas in the ole veggie patch. Okra and purple hull peas make it but that is about it. Soon I will be starting some tomato seedlings for the Fall garden. Some of you may be thinking ,wow two gardens a year! It is not so "wow". First off to get a spring crop of tomatoes we start seedlings in December to have big enough plants at last frost to put out so that they will set fruit before it is too hot. Also, there is no succession planting. It just gets hot too quick. There is no harvesting green beans all Summer, I am grateful for the one picking  I get. Same in the Fall. I have to get stuff planted as soon as it cools a little and hope it was soon enough for it to make before frost. It is challenging to say the least! So instead of green I will give you gray...in the form of  Oscar Peterson!

This is his come hither look! Come hither and pet me ,which happens to be the only look he has! That is about all Oscar does,he has a very laid back personality!
In fact, he doesn't even break into a run at feeding time! He will follow us around, slowly mind you, and beg to be petted. Or if we are doing something he will plop down in the middle of it so we have to pet him! He loves a basket of wet laundry!
Mr.Peterson is a very small cat,the size of a big kitten. His momma was small and he was the runt of the litter! Oscar says, "Put that thing down and pet me!"

Yes,little Oscar really has only one passion in life! He wants to be petted 24-7! His second love would be napping. He only wakes up if he thinks there might be an opportunity to get some petting!

Mouse chasing..ummm no! No interest in mousing at all, darn cat! I kill more mice than he does! Once, I knocked out a mouse that was in the chicken coop and threw it too him he sat there and watched it come to and run off!

Oh well,I guess I can't hold his lack of mousing skills against him. After all, he makes up for it with sweetness!

what a precious kitty! he looks adorable.

i envy you for even trying a garden (or two) in Texas. growing up in wisconsin, we had huge gardens all summer. when i moved here, i couldn't get used to the incredibly different growing seasons so flunked out of growing anything pretty quickly...

Ahhhh....he's adorable!

If those are green eyes then he is a smaller and younger look-a-like of our Maxwell who also lives to be petted. He is adorable.

Doc,
Yes, he has green eyes!

Tricky growing in weather like that. Maybe something that like Mediterranean climbs will grow quickly and tough out the lack of water...

Lovely cat, but why Oscar Peterson?

Pussy cat, Pussy cat what did you there?
I frightened a little mouse

Chris,
That is something to look into but we really are not the same climate I do not think as I have not seen any other gardeners growing things that are different. We have been having awful winters and many of the tropical plants people have grown for years have died. But still it is worth checking out as I would love to be able to have some summer crops!
Oscar Peterson..well most all our animals have two names and when we were in Norway several years back we stayed in a hotel by the sea and there was a building out side ours with Oskar Peterson written on the side..so we stole it from a Norwegian!

Some cats are hunters, others just want love. Oscar is a real lover!

You know, cats were my first love, dogs were not, and your post and pictures reminded me of why that is, or is that was? ;-)

Now see. I did not know it could get too hot for tomatoes. I thought they loved heat.
I need to know these things though because Louisiana is not much different than Texas!

I love cats.
I love that yours has 2 names.
I think Oscar Peterson is a very lucky kitty. Though he would say that YOU are the lucky one. ;)
Have a great day!

The gray post, it welcome. I love always, to see the fur person, or feather persons.

We were terrible dry here, and at last the summer rains have kicked it, it is still hot and humid but the rains give respite.

So interesting, Oskar Peterson....Oscar Peterson. I love.....stories.

I am sorry for the drought. I do hope things improve along and along.

Take care of you and the barnyard too!

Wishing you the best!

I love your little gray! He's so cute. I confess it's pretty easy to have a very productive garden in Iowa.

What a handsome grey fellow he is! Our garden does pretty well but that`s because I don`t touch it. Mister Yodeling has the green thumb in this family! =)

Oh, send that Oscar Peterson over here--we would LOVE to have a cat we can pet. I guess we overdose ours and then they don't want petting anymore. :( I keep telling them that the term "pet" is there for a reason. We now refer to them as "no pets". Ugh.

I love Oscar's lovey face. He looks so sweet!!
