The Winner is....and a New Baby

Today is the day for my very first giveaway drawing! Thanks to everyone that entered and to those who blogged about my giveaway I gave you your 5 extra entries! I  wrote down all the entries......

and put them in a bag..

and pulled out..

The Tales from the Williamson's Trails! I just put Williamson's on the paper because I had a lot of entries to write and I am ..well,a little lazy! A big THANK YOU to everyone who entered!

On to other farm news....Angry Eyes, our first baby born on the farm, had her first baby yesterday while we were away at fiddle lessons.A big little girl!

She is almost as big as the twins that were born several weeks ago! Angry Eyes did miss a few spots cleaning her off but hey,it is her first time!

I am glad she didn't have any trouble since we were not home. The baby is frisky and nursing well. I noticed the baby's cord was way too long so I scooped her up to bring her inside to tie it off and shorten it and how does she repay me for my kind and caring ways..

yeah..that is exactly what it looks like! A huge, gummy, first poop all over me! Ingrate! Well, it's not like it is the first time I have been pooped on! Farm life you know! Look at that face...could a body really be mad at such a cute little face?

Boredom and Pullet Bullets

Well, there has not been much happening around here.We seem to be in a forever  end of winter limbo, ready and waiting for spring. So much to do when it finally gets here! We have rain again today...I know we need it...sigh! Just look at this lovely greenness from last year!

We are getting about 20 eggs a day! It is so muddy half go to the dogs because they are dirty.Makes the dogs real happy! I have seen other folks posting about their strange eggs, the strangest we have ever gotten is a tiny one the size of a bird egg and pullet bullets! Pullet bullets are the real skinny ones the young girls squeeze out! Having a boy...well..the first time he saw them he said they looked like chicken bullets so that is how we named them!

I wonder..if you were to hatch a pullet bullet, would the chickie have a pointed head? Sorry ,it's a slow day!

To drive home how slow it is, here is a picture of our lunch. Homemade chicken noodle soup made from our own chickens and  homemade broth!

The noodles are rice noodles because me and The Boy have trouble with wheat. The only way we tolerate bread in moderation is a slow rise  buttermilk sourdough bread. The slow rise and buttermilk help to deactivate the bad enzymes. That is what is next to the soup, crusty garlic toast, homemade of course! Yes ,it was yummy! Perfect for a dreary, rainy day!

For those of you who are new to me,this is what Hubby does in China!

He builds off shore oil rigs!

Yep,he's a manly man for sure!

Goodies and Tractor Learin'

I am a winner! Look what came in the mail yesterday from October Farm !

These lovely glass dishes and great doilies! I am a doily addict! I absolutely can't have enough of them. She threw in a box of candy too..but...well,I am afraid it has be properly ..disposed of! HaHa ,that sounds way better than scarfed down! Not the candy that is in the bowl now, that is my today's disposal project! So here is a big THANK YOU to my friend at October Farm and if you haven't visited her blog she is always having give aways  and lots of yummy recipes.Plus she is the Thrifting Queen!

I thought I would show you some pictures of Hubby teaching The Boy to drive Ole Betsy! It is a good and useful thing to know how to drive a tractor especially on a farm!

Is this a look of fear? No,he is just being his usual goofy self!

All right Boy,keep it on the farm! No driving Ole Betsy to town!

This is the hay spear Hubby built for the back.It has been tested and works great! My back is letting out a sight of relief!

Hubby is on his way back to China this morning..no matter how long we have been doing this..I still miss him!

Betsy May Not Be Much of a Looker....

The old girl may not win any tractor beauty pageants but she is smooth running and full of get up and go! Most importantly, Ole Betsy, is ours! We finally have a tractor!

Everyone knows tractors will last forever, so there was no way we were going to spend a fortune on a new one, so we have been waiting to find a good deal on a used one and ,well, Ole Betsy is pretty used!

I don't care, she is a good ole gal and I have lots of plans for her! Betsy and me,were going to be friends!

She is a little rusty, nothing bad, and has a sad eye.A new headlight will give her some sparkle!

She didn't have a seat but, on the way home, Hubby stopped and got her a brand new one!

He and The Boy are out in the shop giving her a few TLC adjustments...

and Hubby is building a hay spear for the back of her. No more rolling those huge bales of hay around! I'm getting too old for that kind of stuff!

We had to drive a long way to get Ole Betsy. One of Hubby's friends,a fellow China worker, gave us a great deal on her so it was worth the drive. He even let us use his trailer to bring her home on because ours was too narrow.

So here's to easier days in our future on Laughing Duck Farm! Welcome Ole Betsy, you've found a home!

Memories of Green

First of all, I want to give a  big ole  THANK YOU to everyone that has entered my contest and to all my new friends who followed me!

There is not a lot to post about today because it is raining.I feel like I am 6 years old and the children's song is playing in my mind,"Rain, rain, go away......"

So I went back to look for some photos of last spring , just to remind myself it really existed!

The lovely green canopy that we live under...I miss you green umbrella!

This was the beginning of spring last year. These old oaks don't even have their big leaves yet!

Oh, garden how I long to till up your soil!

Little goatie Nibbles had green grass to romp on!

Butter Bean too!

It is hard to believe they are all grown up and big goaties now!

Well...as big as dwarf goaties get any how!
